The biggest news going right now in residential metal roofing is this: as part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (the big stimulus package that passed and was signed into law in February), there is now a substantial tax credit for homeowners who choose certain metal roofs for their home. Here are some common questions and answers about this tax credit:

Q: What products qualify for this tax credit?

A: Metal roofs that are Energy-Star Certified can earn the tax credit for homeowners

Q: What is the amount of the tax credit?

A: 30% of qualifying metal roofing materials value, up to a maximum of $1,500.00

Q: What must I do to qualify for the tax credit?

A: Have an Energy-Star Certified metal roof installed on your primary residence, and when you file your federal income taxes you can claim the credit with the proper IRS form and an attached Certificate from the manufacturer showing that your metal roof is Energy Star Certified.

Q: If this is a tax CREDIT, does that mean I get the full $1,500 back?

A: Yes, unlike a tax deduction, a CREDIT means that you get the full $1,500 taken off your tax burden, or added to your refund if you get one.

In Classic Metal Roofing options, nearly all of our standard colors are Energy-Star Certified. Therefore nearly all of them (except Black and Blue) will get you the tax credit!
